Feeling comfortable with marketing and publicity
It’s been a busy month for me on the marketing side of things. I wrote an article on gratitude which has been published in the latest edition of the Hope Valley Journal, and I was interviewed on BBC Radio Derby about my work with clients with needle phobia and how this supports people in taking up the Covid vaccine. In 2021 publicity and (self publicity) can feel part of life and not always one that feels comfortable. So how can we make the most of ourselves without feeling that we’re showing off?
Sharing your talents
It is important to emphasise that whether you’re preparing for an interview, sharing an achievement on social media or writing a resume, you are showcasing your talents or skills not yourself. It may feel that you’re trying to advertise yourself but your work and the skills you offer are only one part of the picture that makes up you, and it can be helpful to take a step back from what you are marketing to recognise this. Your skills are important and worth sharing with the world. I was delighted to be asked on to Radio Derby because I know that hypnotherapy can offer a very valuable support to people who wish to take up the Covid vaccine and are frightened of needles. My skills and experience in this area are just one part of my hypnotherapy business, which in turn is just one part of my life.
Finding the way that’s right for you
There are many different ways of sharing your talents with the world. Not everyone feels comfortable on social media and that’s fine. If you need to publicise your business or a skill you offer, work out what medium works best for you. Perhaps you enjoy writing and could blog. Networking can be a good way of meeting new people and making links. You don’t have to go from zero to a hundred overnight in any of this. Take small steps at first, building up slowly so that your comfort zone expands gradually and naturally.
Ask yourself why you feel uncomfortable
If you are aware of a sense of discomfort when you think about sharing your talents ask yourself why you have this feeling. Have you picked up a negative message about ‘showing off’ in the past? Is this message even true? Is there a way you can make things easier for yourself? Do you struggle with ‘imposter syndrome’? Talking to somebody else can help in these circumstances, helping you recognise the strengths and talents you have. Once again taking small steps helps you to deal with any unease you may have.
How hypnotherapy can help you
Sometimes you have no choice but to have an interview or do a presentation which you may worry about. Hypnotherapy can help you in this by developing your confidence so you feel better equipped for the challenge ahead. I can design a positive visualisation of you performing well in the interview (or presentation) which helps your brain absorb the message that you can do it and you can do it well.
